EDUCATION Programme
Multimodal Digital Distance Education
During the globalisation process for about a
decade, there has been rapid technological innovations leading to many
technological changes. To cope up with these changes, there is a need for
continuing Education of Technologists. Conventional classroom teaching alone
cannot meet the Human Resource requirements. Digital Distance Education (DDE)
is considered the only solution for rapidly evolving subjects and explosive
knowledge growth in the form of short and medium term and career-oriented
courses.
The School of Education Technology (SET) is established
by Jadavpur University in 1988 primarily to experiment with technologies that
could be used to create a better teaching-learning environment. In 2003 MCIT
provided funds to SET to set up Multi-modal Digital Distance Education
programme at Jadavpur University. The instructional materials were developed at
SET by the faculty members of Jadavpur University.
Mode of Dissemination of the courses
In the multimodal digital distance education
programme, all the following modes of dissemination methods would be used
through work centres designated by Distance Education Partner
- Print material
- CD-ROM based Conventional CBT
(CAI and/or Multimedia), Ekalabbya based & Upasthapana based self-learning
packages
- Education through web-based
learning environment.
- Limited “in person” guidance
through mentors in the work-centres while performing lab and using
self-learning packages.
- Live broadcast of some
lead-lectures by eminent personalities through Video Conferencing and
one-way video with two-way audio for interaction.
- Real-time chat, forum and
bulletin board facility.
- On-line quiz and assignments
for self evaluation.
- Laboratory and project work at
work centres.
- Live projects in designated
organisations in certain courses.
- Student learning monitoring
through learning Management System (LMS)
- Internet services is used
extensibly for interactivity.
- Assignments through web
- Workshops at Jadavpur University
within the semester for clearance of doubts etc.

Work Centers will be allotted to the student on
the basis of selection merit list and choice of preference of work centre in
their application form.Work centers provided by Distance Education Partners
will provide the following facilities / services :
- Access to computer for students
pursuing Multimodal Digital Distance Education programme by using CD-ROM,
Web-education etc.
- Internet facility
- Provide the services of mentors
during the student’s stay at work-centre.
- Conduct lab experiments and
project work
- Assist in continuous evaluation
of student’s performance.
Student – Work centre relation
Students would use the work centers for lab work
(6 hrs per week), interaction work and CDROM/web browsing (14 hrs per week). In
addition they would conduct thesis/dissertation/project work at the work
centers. It is mandatory that a student must perform at work centre atleast
for 10 hrs/week.
Courses
- 4 Semester “Post Graduate
Diploma in Multimedia and Web Technology” in Multimodal Digital
Distance Education format. This is for the first time any University in
India is offering the course in this mode.
- 6 Semester “M. Tech.IT
(Courseware Engineering)” in Multimodal Digital Distance Education
format. The course would be offered to intending Resource Persons to
familiarise with methodology, tools & techniques of Digital Distance
Education for Content Creation in their fields of specialisation.
Examination
Examinations would be conducted
in the conventional manner as is done in classroom method at Jadavpur
University.
Awards
The Diploma/Degree for the Post
Graduate Diploma and Degree Courses will be awarded by Jadavpur University.
Eligibility
1. For
the Course “Post Graduate Diploma in Multimedia and Web Technology“
Graduation in any discipline with some knowledge on
Windows, Word Processing and basic computer operations.
2.
For the Course “M. Tech .IT (Courseware
Engineering)”
Bachelor Degree in Engineering
& Technology in any discipline or equivalent / M.Sc. in Physics,
Mathematics, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology with at
least 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PD).
Note: However, candidates who have appeared / are due to appear at
the qualifying examinations (B.E. /B.Tech/M.Sc. )may also apply and such
candidates, if selected, will be admitted if they can submit valid proof of
their passing the qualifying examination with required percentage of marks at
the time of Interview. If the results are awaited on the date of interview such
selected candidates shall have to submit the mark sheet of the qualifying
examination within 3 months from the date of commencement of 1st semester classes
failing which or if the candidate is found to be not eligible in terms of
percentage of marks obtained, his/her provisional admission will be cancelled.
Mode of Selection & Admission:
- Qualifying
Exam. Result (B.E/B.Tech /M.Sc. ) 50 marks
- Interview
and/or Admission Test 50 marks
Note:
1.
Candidates whose results of the qualifying examinations are awaited on
the date of Interview and/or Admission Test will be determined on the results
of University Examinations declared so for the qualification (till previous
results of final qualification examination).
2.
The students shall give their preference of Work Centers in the form.
Selection will be based on Interview and/or Admission Test and Qualifying Exam
result. Depending on availability of seats, the selection will be made and Work
Centers will be allotted according to merit and preference.
An admission
test covering the following aspects would be taken:
- M.
Tech .IT (Courseware Engineering)
Computer knowledge, Programming Aptitude. Analytical Reasoning abilities,
Logical Reasoning abilities, English Comprehension.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Multimedia and Web Technology
Computer knowledge in DOS & Windows, Analytical & Logical Reasoning
abilities, English Comprehension.
SC/ST
Reservation
As per circular
No. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt. 06/08/1984 & BCD-I, D.O. 12017/11/89-SCD(R. CELL)
dt. 08/01/1990 and letter no. 1510-SCW dt. 31/05/2007 from the Government of
West Bengal, Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe Person of the State other than
West Bengal are not entitled to get benefits of the State for SC/ST in
Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Attested copy of SC/ST Certificate
(with photograph) issued by competent authority of Government of West Bengal in
the name of the candidate must be submitted with the application.

- The selected
candidates for admission are asked to get admission in respective courses positively
by 27.06.2008 from 10 a.m. to 1.30p.m. failing which their selection may
be cancelled without further reference.
- The Wait
Listed Candidate will asked to appear on 30.06.2008 by 12.30 PM for consider
his/her name against the existing vacancy of different courses in the
Office of Directorate of Distance Education and the list of successful
candidate will be displayed on the next day in the F.E.T. Office as well
as University web site.
- Such
successful waitlisted candidates selected for admission will be asked to
get themselves admitted by 04.07.2008 failing which their selection may be
treated as cancelled.
- First
Semester Classes will be commenced on 01.07.2008.

Listed Candidate who had appeared on 30.06.2008 but did not get selection

The
candidate should note the following:
- Application form must be
properly filled in online. Incomplete or irregular(modification of printed
data will be treated as irregular form) form will not be considered.
- Students have
to take the print out of the completed online application form.
- Students
should complete the blank fields and put necessary signatures.
- An application fee of Rs.100/- (per course) as
a demand draft from any Nationalised Bank for each Course
of study in favour of
"Jadavpur University" payable at Kolkata should be
submitted along with the Print out of the online application form.
- Completed application form along with demand
draft will be received by the office of Directorate of Distance Education
at Jupiter Building of the University from 11-00 a.m. to 5-30 p.m. on
weekdays (Monday to Friday, except holidays) by hand till the last date.
- Application Form sent by post, addressed to the Coordinator,
Directorate of Distance Education, School of Education Technology, Jupiter
Building, Jadavpur University, Kolkata – 700 032 should reach the
University on an before the last date. No Form will be received
after last date (i.e. 11.06.2008).
- Applicant
should keep the xeroxed copy of the application form and demand draft for
future use if required,
- Only eligible
candidates will be allowed to download the admit card from url http://www.jadavpur.edu
or http://www.setju.ac.in Any candidate facing difficulty
in downloading the admit card is advised to contact (in person) Principal
Secretary FET, 7 days before the start of the admission test and/or
interview.
- Photocopy of
Application form (downloaded) is not permissible.
- Failure to
appear at the Admission Test and/or Interview on the specified date shall
cancel his/her candidature without any further reference.
- Final pass
mark-sheet should be submitted within 3 months from the date of admission.
- Registration of application does not confer any
right of the applicant to be called for interview.
- The candidate
should brought the following attested documents along with original at the
time of Admission test and/or interview and also at the time of admission
after final selection
- Admit
Card/Certificate of S.F./Madhyamik or equivalent examination for
verification of date of birth
- All
original Grade Cards and Original Marksheet and Certificates of

- The Admission Committee reserves the right of not
selection any candidate who is considered physically unfit or otherwise
unsuitable.
- Registration
of application does not confer any right of the applicant to be called for
interview.
- All J.U. courses are not residential. Hostel seats are
not available for Multimodal Digital Distance Education Programme.
